APE Collaborative: Fit Families

For this episode of the What's New in APE Podcast, we are able to deliver a recording of the November NCPEID APE Collaborative, with guest speaker Dr. Luis Columna of the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Dr. Columna is an associate professor and author of two books, as well as numerous peer reviewed journal articles. He has served on various different journal committees and has given over 100 presentations/workshops at the international, national, and state level. This podcast discusses Columna’s Fit Families Program, a program that promotes family involvement in physical activity for children with autism. Explained in his presentation is the importance of families’ roles in regard to encouraging physical activity, as well as various strategies for teaching families what to do, as well as how to handle family construct and eliminate barriers to family involvement.
