Podcast 15: Camp Abilities Part 1

I am very excited to be bringing you the 15th episode of the podcast! This podcast is very near to my heart as I have been blessed to have been apart of starting a Camp Abilities in Michigan. Camp Abilities is a sports camp specially designed for children with visual impairments. At Camp Abilities we grow leadership and sports skills in our campers and provide a unique experience for children with visual impairments. There are Camp Abilities all over the world, with most of them based within the United States. For this podcast we had Camp Abilities directors from all over the US. We were happy to have directors from Maryland, New York, St. Louis, and Alaska. We were also joined by the founder of Camp Abilities, Dr. Lauren Lieberman. This will be the first of a three part podcast focusing on what is Camp Abilities, how camp benefits children with visual impairments, and how camp gets the community involved in adapted sports and promote children with visual impairments to be more active in their own communities. This first part focuses specifically on what each camp has in common, training parents get at camp that they can take back to school or home, and how people get involved with Camp Abilities.

This podcast is extremely special as Camp Abilities recently had an HBO special on HBO Real Sports and had a documentary released about some of the Camp Abilities around the world. The HBO special trailer is on the top right side and the documentary is on the bottom right side of this text.
